The Internal Medicine Department and its branches were established in the academic year 2003-2004 with permanent faculty members at the college and hospital workers. An elite group of distinguished professors rotated as its head. It was one of the departments distinguished by the testimony of visiting professors from corresponding colleges in Libyan universities. The department seeks, through professors and teaching assistants, to excel and obtain accreditation.

To become a beacon of continuous distinguished medical education and achieve the advancement of scientific research and innovation to meet societal needs.

The Internal Medicine Department is committed to preparing scientifically qualified doctors who are able to provide distinguished health care. The Internal Medicine Department is also committed to the continuous development of the educational process and distinguished scientific research in order to achieve locally approved quality standards and confront community health problems efficiently and competently.

·       The department teaches general and special internal medicine for fourth and fifth year students.

·       The Internal Medicine Department is one of the educational departments at Gharyan Central Teaching Hospital, and it provides service to patients 24 hours a day.
